The first vertical scanner arrives in Spain

The HM Delfos Hospital in Barcelona inaugurates EOS, a diagnostic tool that allows obtaining an image of the entire body in 20 seconds and with up to 85% less radiation

EOS is especially indicated for detecting problems in joint pathologies, as well as for degenerative diseases of the spine, knee and hip, by allowing high-quality images to be obtained under load. “Obtaining full-body 3D imaging is also important for the evaluation of many other specialties besides spinal surgeons. These images complement biomechanical studies, and are relevant in specialties such as podiatry, orthopedics, traumatology, rheumatology, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, osteopathy and neurosurgery, "says Conesa.

Specifically, it provides 50% less than traditional X-rays and up to 85% less than CT scans. This radiation reduction is especially significant in the pediatric population, being very relevant for complex problems such as scoliosis, in which a series of body images must be obtained repeatedly over time. This lower radiation is achieved thanks to a particle emission and X-ray detection system whose system won the inventor, Georges Charpak, the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1992. .
