Institute IMOR is a medical centre devoted solely to caring for oncology patients. Dedicated to performing treatments in the specialty of Radiation Oncology and is committed to adhering to the highest internationally accepted quality standards.
The centre opened in 1999 and has since attended some 9,000 patients. It boasts the most modern, latest generation external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy equipment and offers state-of-the-art treatments. Most of the external beam radiotherapy treatments are carried out using the IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) technique combined with IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy), the most precise technique available today which makes it possible to boost healing while reducing secondary effects and minimizing complications.
Among its advanced radiotherapy procedures, the centre has introduced the RapidArc technique to Spain, even better than IMRT in cutting treatment times, and recently introduced the SBRT technique which offers spectacular results in the treatment of lung tumours and distant metastasis located close to critical organs.
Institut IMOR is distinguished not just for the high quality of the medical treatments it practices, but also its excellent patient relations. Proof of this is the high level of satisfaction amongst the patients we treat and the insurance companies that refer their patients to us, some of which have recognised us as their reference centre.
In short, at Institut IMOR we strongly believe in including new technologies into daily clinical practice as quickly as possible, always first ensuring that their use is justified and beneficial to the patient. We must ensure that they are applied properly right from the start, without learning curves, which is why we place so much store on continuous training. The application of these techniques requires having the right level of investment so they can be incorporated as soon as they become available. The personnel at Institut IMOR are scientifically active and take part in the most important specialised congresses, presenting their scientific works and publishing their results in high-impact specialty journals. Finally, the Institute’s work must be suitably publicised so that the authorities, financing bodies, patients, health personnel and the public at large know about us and can visit us to ask any questions they may have.
Putting all of this into effect requires an ongoing EFFORT, one which Institut IMOR is committed to making.
Institut IMOR is owned and run by doctors who specialise in Radiation Oncology and Hospital Radiophysics. Earnings are reinvested to ensure we always have the most advanced management techniques to offer our patients.
The centre has been distinguished with the highest international awards in this speciality, having received the Best Brachytherapy Award from the World Congress of Brachytherapy, the Best Radiotherapy Center from the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) and the Judith Sitt Brachytherapy Prize from the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), among others.
The multidisciplinary team is comprised of leading experts in each branch of the specialty. Headed by Dr. Benjamín Guix, Professor of Radiology and Physical Medicine at the University of Barcelona, the team includes two full-time specialists, Drs. Antonio Martínez and Iván García, and part-time collaborators including Dr. Ferrán Guedea, Head of the Radiotherapy Department at the Catalan Institute for Oncology at the Duran i Reynals Hospital and former president of the Spanish

The Physical Medicine and Radiation Protection Service is run by Dr. José Ignacio Tello, a specialist in hospital radiophysics, with the support of his colleague Alberto Cano, who also specialises in the same area, both of whom are responsible for keeping the complex installations up to date and ensuring the quality of the treatments.
We also have a specialist in Gynaecological Oncology, a urologist and an anaesthetist, who collaborate in the brachytherapy treatments to ensure that the highest levels of precision and quality are always upheld, together with a specialist in Psycho-Oncology.
